I was talking to someone I haven’t seen in a long time and in the conversation, she was sharing with me how she doesn’t like to get angry. The last couple of times she was angry, she blew and it appeared to her that her fuse was getting shorter and shorter. Each time she would get angry, she told herself that it wasn’t good to do that and she felt bad for being that way.
How many people do we meet that aren’t ok with their emotions whether it is anger, frustration, or any other emotion we don’t want to feel?
When I read this transcript, I thought what perfect timing.
Sri Bhagavan from the Oneness University in India commented on Anger and Charges
“Anger is a primary natural emotion experienced by all humans sometime or the other. It can mobilize psychological resources or corrective action. But, unfortunately anger has become an irrepressible response to many.
Normally, people try to control their temper. But, exerting oneself to restrain anger can only aggravate the feeling. Hence, one has to develop an entirely different perspective to deal with it. An intemperate anger is basically a symptom of a deep rooted charge which is stored in your unconscious and what is a charge? It is an incomplete experience of your past that tends to be repetitive.
Hence, people driven by charges develop a very narrow outlook to life. Every situation, relationship becomes a platform for their charges to express or manifest, and consequently they get to be highly susceptible to reactions. If you have to get rid of anger, then work on silencing the roaring demons of your conscious.
Resolve the unsettled issues of your past or relationships or problems with your own self and you would certainly feel a change in your response. You get to experience anger without spite. It is a state that can very well be described as anger-less anger which leaves no residue.”
Anger is an emotion we all deal with whether we are the ones angry or the ones we are around that are angry. Anger is a reaction to someone or something around us. It is in that reaction that we will find the unresolved issue. Each time we go into what that anger is, it lessens and lessens until it is gone.
The more we don’t want to deal with these emotions, the worse they get. As we go along and anger comes up, we often try to stuff it down and go on with our day but we really don’t ever get back to it to be with again. The more we do that, the worse it gets. It is like a volcano waiting to erupt and when it does, everyone knows it. Now if we were to deal with the emotion each time it comes up instead of stuff it down, that volcano wouldn’t have a chance to grow and then one day blow.
It’s not about clearing and clearing the anger that comes up each time, it’s about clearing what is causing the anger to come up in the first place. We often talk about clearing our charges or bothers. These charges or bothers can show up as reactions. Whether they are reactions to something that may have happened or reactions to something someone did, it’s about going into that reaction and feeling what it is for us. Until we clear the root of those reactions, it won’t go away.
Sri Bhagavn gives us a different way to see it for what it is and for that I am truly grateful.
