When I think of the first…. The first word I said, the first step I took, the first mistake I made, even the first time I drove a car, I don’t remember any of them. But as I started to choose what I wanted to do in life, those firsts for me started to be more memorable. To experience each new first was so challenging and yet rewarding at the same time. I remember teaching my first class. I thought I was going to die. I was so nervous I shook standing up there but somehow I made it through ok. Each of the firsts for me forced me to grow in some way. Was it easy? Absolutely not but I still carried on.
Each year as I was growing up, there was such an emphasis on the “News Year’s Resolution”. People were going to start their diets, stop smoking, stop drinking, start their fitness program, etc. This holiday season, I noticed not one person around me even mentioned anything about a new year’s resolution.
How many people still wait to start something January 1st? We don’t have to wait for the new year to start anymore. We have it right here each day in each moment. We start 1st thing in the morning when we get up. Each day we are given another opportunity to better ourselves, to help someone else, to better the community, to better the world. Each day it starts with us. With each new day comes a new us which then spreads to the people around us. That’s what I call contagious. Let’s start spreading some good cheer instead of the flu bug. Happy New Year to you all.
