Praying for Relief?

There has been so much unrest in the world with all the hurricane activity taking place. If you are affected by the unrest, I couldn’t even begin to imagine how this may be impacting you and your family. Is the Divine showing us something through these hurricanes?

I receive a newsletter from Sheevaun Moran, a business advisor, master coach and energy thought leader. Sheevaun was talking about the hurricanes and said this, “Water is a symbol of purification and heart. Water is about emotions and what we are doing emotionally. Without water we would perish and yet when our emotional conditions are filled with pain, distrust and animosity from too many sides then water has a lot to say. Maybe the waters of the earth are saying something important about the value of connection and collaborations and caring for others above the discord. We are truly “all one” when it counts.”

Those words really spoke to me. People have been donating money in support of the victims of these storms. The support has been immeasurable and continues to show up in more ways than just financial. This is a beautiful way to support and care for one another in the world. Caring that may not always show up the same for those closer to home.

Sometimes it’s not always easy to support and care for those around you. That is part of the ups and downs in life. But taking the opportunity to donate for the relief of others can be one way of receiving relief in return. Have you ever thought of that? What you give out will come back to you. This is another application of what that could look like. We all make the world go round.

This concept of giving to help others experience relief makes me think of a saying Morgan Freeman said on the show Evan Almighty (2007). In this movie, Morgan plays the part of God. God says, “Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other? How do we change the world? One Act of Random Kindness.”

I invite you today to consider anything you do which offers relief in some way for another…that relief will make a difference not only for another but for yourself as well.

I would like to give a shout out for an amazing charity Sheevaun is a part of. It’s called ‘Create a Bright Life’ http://createabrightlife.org . For many years her charity has been giving and serving those in need in the western states. How perfect to have that resource available now for the victims of the current hurricanes.

Holding on for his life!

Over two weeks ago my brother Mark had a kidney transplant. He was experiencing some challenges. My husband and I took our mom to visit him. The trip was two and a half hours each way.

When we got to the hospital we found Mark in a place where he didn’t have much strength to even get out of bed. His eyes were so puffy. I was quite shocked to see him like that! For the first while I was blessed to be able to sit and talk with Mark, as my sister-in-law sat with my husband and our mom in the visiting room.

I asked Mark a lot of questions about what he thought was preventing him from going home. We talked for quite a while. It appeared Mark had lost his way. I helped him to shift his perception and bring about strength inside. Miracles started to show up while we were there.

One miracle was when I found his secondary urinary tube was totally twisted preventing the release of urine. He had thought his new kidney wasn’t working properly. I helped him to consider there are times when problems come from ‘outside’ of us, not always from the inside.

Another miracle showed up when he needed the support of a catheter to help eliminate the backup of urine. Mark had experienced so much pain thru a previous episode of inserting the catheter and he was upset about having to go through it again. We talked about the changes taking place within him and to not fight the healing process. When the nurses put the catheter in, they told Mark they were done! He hadn’t even felt it. He was so relieved there was no pain he just cried from with joy! I even had tears myself. I shared with Mark the fact that he had no pain was also a sign of the healing and changes taking place within.

When we left that day, Mark had no swelling around his eyes and had a beautiful color to his skin. Our visit all together as a family was amazing. It was a trip worth taking.

As I write this, Mark is going home soon. We all are so grateful for all the prayers, blessings and grace he has been receiving from all over the world. For all your prayers for Mark, on behalf of all our family I thank you so much.

My brother Mark is one example of how we can lose our focus in times when things become really hard for us to deal with. Think about that for yourself. Something challenging comes up for you and after so long things get to the place where it’s really hard to keep going. This can be a separation/divorce; can be the loss of a loved one; can be a layoff/fired from a job. If it takes a ‘long’ time to bring about resolution inside you can lose sight of what is taking place and how that is serving you.

Some examples of how losing focus can show up in your life:

you don’t see how your body can heal itself;
you don’t think you’ll ever be able to turn your finances around;
that special someone you want in your life doesn’t exist;
everything is hopeless, why even try anymore.

Being in a space like that indicates you have got to the place where you are caught up in all the mental and emotional noise going on inside. Things don’t even make sense anymore. What have you really lost sight of? What could help you to move through that?

Clarity and focus are often ‘clouded’ by something going on deep inside. To move through that can be an enlightening process; a process which gently guides you to shift your perception and find your inner strength. I work with that.

Life experiences are about learning and growing which results from moving through each moment of your day. As you move through your challenges no longer become challenges and you start to feel a sense of calm inside.

What’s really going on?

I was talking with a lady who I will call Marilyn. Marilyn was bothered about a gentleman she was working with. She said he doesn’t know anything. When I asked her what that was about she shared this story.

Marilyn works in accounting. One of her accounts was overdue and she contacted the customer. The customer said they had already paid the amount. After checking a bit Marilyn found out their company had received the money. The gentleman she worked with had received and processed the money. Marilyn wondered if he processed the money why was there a balance still owing from the customer.

She checked into the customer’s recent transactions and found the gentleman was processing the entries incorrectly. Something about that bothered her, she questioned him and walked away feeling upset. When I asked Marilyn what bothered her about that she told me it bothers her that he wasn’t doing his job correctly. I asked how she knew that and she said she used to work in that department.

Marilyn was reacting and I could energetically feel her upset was not about him. I explained the gentleman helped her to get to that feeling inside of her. I invited her to look a little deeper into what she was feeling. This time she said she doesn’t like looking like a fool! There it was. She perceived she was the one who looked like she didn’t know her job and she didn’t like that feeling.

I worked with Marilyn for a bit and she saw the dynamic taking place. Then I said to her, ‘one way of knowing if someone isn’t doing their job correctly is to find different mistakes like that. Once you find a mistake you can then help the person making the mistake to know the correct procedures. Until then you may not know what a person knows and doesn’t know.’

This is only one of how many stories that take place in the working world. I share that story to highlight a couple of things that can play out in relationships.

The first thing has to do with ‘focus.’ When people perceive there is a problem they tend to stay focused on what they think is the problem. Majority of times the problem has to do with what somebody outside of them did or didn’t do. Staying focused on what someone else did, especially if it bothers the person, stirs up emotions inside. At this point where a person is bothered they are in a reactive state and it can be hard for the person who is reacting to step back and look at what is really taking place.

The second thing has to do with ‘clarity.’ There is a difference between a problem being a problem and a problem now involving emotional upset. What is really going on? The person getting upset has an underlying issue. That issue needs to be resolved inside of the person reacting.

In life people tend to let others know they are wrong or incorrect by bringing things to their attention. For example, at work someone picks up on a mistake in a procedure and brings it to the other person’s attention. At home when someone does something wrong others usually bring it to their attention so they learn how to do it correctly.

It has been my experience when situations involve emotional upset, there is more at play than just bringing the wrong doing to their attention.

Labeling Family Members

My husband and I were playing cards with my mother this past weekend. As we played, we listened to country and western songs. A song would come up and I would ask my mom who sings that song? Mom would reply with the singer’s name and most of the time, she would tell us interesting facts about the singer and their life. This went on for hours. At one point, my mom said, ‘there isn’t too much I don’t know about the country and western singers of my time. I don’t know too much about the new ones today though.’

The next day I became aware of what was going on for me! It was like I had been testing my mom! I started to think about how smart my mom was. She is brilliant when it comes to the country and western singers of her time. I might add she is also brilliant when it comes to the Royal Family. With those thoughts I wondered why my dad couldn’t see how smart she was. Growing up I often heard my dad tell my mom she was stupid.

My awareness has expanded in a beautiful loving way. All of a sudden I had a greater appreciation for my mother’s brilliance. I notice I ask her more questions and take time to actually listen! Sounds awful to say! I can’t say that is totally different for me. I can say I am now more conscious for these different thoughts and feelings.

I continued to be with my thoughts and realized it was like I was trying to ‘prove’ my mom wasn’t stupid; she was very much smart! That surprised me! I started to have overwhelming love for her.

Have you ever experienced anything like that? Were you raised to believe things about your family members and later in life come to learn differently? Do you experience you continue to ‘label’ certain family members as being something they no longer are? Maybe you experience doing that in other relationships! It would be wonderful to hear from you.

It was and continues to be a huge gift to be in a place where I can see my mother with much more grace than I could before. Personally I feel we are always rewarded for doing our inner work!
