When do we really feel appreciation for something? Allow me to share some insight based on my experience….
It has been a week of inner healing once again. While on a vacation out of town my dad had a major stroke. We didn’t know if he was going to make it. He has been hanging in there with the grace of the divine. Some of my sisters have gone out of town to be with dad and mom in the hospital. I have chosen to stay here at home to clean mom and dad’s home while they are gone.
As I’ve been cleaning there have been moments of feeling like mom and dad probably don’t even care that I’m cleaning the house. When I stop thinking about what my parents may be feeling…and focus more on what I’m feeling, those moments have led me to ‘feel’ some deep inner hurts from the past. As I ‘be’ with what I’m feeling there has been much inner healing taking place.
When I think of my mom and dad ‘appreciating’ a clean house right now…they may not be in a place where that would even be important to them at this point. They may not appreciate what I am doing until they get back home to ‘experience’ what it feels like. Mom may arrive home and sit down finding out all the clothes and linen are washed, the house needs no extra attention for a few days and the yard work is done for a while. It may only be in those moments of experiencing the clean house that the gratitude or appreciation surfaces.
We can ‘think’ about what an outcome may look like but we will never know until it is fully experienced. The mind can lead us into thinking whatever we want…but the truth is experienced in the moment.
