Are you experiencing what may be called ‘obstacles’ in your life these days? Obstacles could present themselves through your health, professional career….even your home life. Why do we even have them? I’ve come to learn many wonderful things about obstacles. Allow me to give you an example through an experience I had regarding obstacles…..
When I was in India, I had some not so great experiences with taxi drivers. The first one happened the first day I was in India. My taxi driver dropped me off for my massage and told me to phone him when I was done. When I was done, I asked the spa owner to phone my taxi driver. She said he was already downstairs waiting for me. I asked her again stating I was to phone when I was done. Again she told me he was downstairs waiting for me. Okay, away I went. The security man pointed me to the taxi driver and yes a taxi car was in the spot where I was dropped off. I got in and he took me to the hotel I was staying at.
Two hours later I was in my hotel room and got a call from my taxi driver saying he was still waiting for me to come pick me up from my massage. I hadn’t phoned him yet. He was very mad to say the least. If you could imagine in that moment…how blessed I felt to have made it back to my hotel safely! This story didn’t end there with all I experienced…and to make a long story short, I ended up making it right for my taxi driver by paying him for his service.
The second not so great experience happened the very last day in India. I arranged for a taxi to take me to the airport. One of the ladies who had been to the temple with me introduced me to a taxi driver she met…sharing how amazing he was and that she would use him…on and on. I thought to myself I was good to try him as I needed a taxi driver right then. Well…the ride was the worst ride I had ever had! His car was run down and he had his windows open. I ended up getting mad at him because he wouldn’t close his windows and I couldn’t breathe because of the gas fumes from the vehicles outside. The car would stall out when the air conditioning was on. To make a long story short…I did get to the airport knowing there was something to learn from that experience.
What was going on with these obstacles around taxi drivers for me? Our Divine doesn’t just give us experiences to keep us amused. There is always a lesson in any people, things or situations that challenge us.
The first couple of days being back at home, my whole digestive track was not doing well. I was quite sick for a few days. Finally it hit me! I could see what my taxi experiences were showing me!!!
I thought to myself, if my sister had been with me in India…she wouldn’t have got into that taxi car looking like it did! She would have said no way! When I saw that…I got to thinking I didn’t have the ‘guts’ to say I wasn’t going to go into that taxi! I didn’t have the ‘guts’ to go with the guidance I had to go with the taxi company I had initially chosen myself! When I realized that lesson…intended for me….believe it or not….my whole digestive track started to ‘right’ itself.
Our obstacles…or even our challenges that make it hard for us in some way…get our attention! When we have obstacles on our path of life…once we realize the lessons or the learning from any obstacle, those obstacles will dissolve themselves and be gone.
This has been my experience time and time again. When I sit with anything that is really challenging me…asking to be shown what my lesson is…what I’m to learn from the experience…the lesson shows itself and the challenge is gone.
I invite you to look at any obstacle in your life…is there a lesson for your learning and growing?
